Mutaa Marriage
Excerpt from Foreign Policy magazine …Mutaa is a form of “temporary marriage” only acceptable within Shiite Muslim communities, one that allows couples to have religiously sanctioned sex for a limited period of time, without any commitments, and without the obligatory involvement of religious figures. In conservative Muslim societies known for their strict sense of propriety, mutaa...

Does anyone know the answer to this?
Why does Ruby on Rails use class based inheritance instead of Ruby mixins (modules and Module.include?) e.g. class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base … end or class Account < ActiveRecord::Base … end instead of class ApplicationController include ActionController::Base … end or class Account include ActiveRecord::Base … end Mixins are much more flexible than class...

Regional Openers
I met up with my boy Cory Heywood at a party for some Cantonese Chinese students where he was DJing. I was one of two white guys in there, and he was the only black dude. This led me to think how would one approach someone of the opposite sex in an environment where they find themselves an outsider in some way. “I know what you’re thinking. ‘What is this 鬼佬 doing...

I ran into this issue while developing some credit card processing functionality. There is bug ticket open for this here. An easy but ugly way around it is to manually add your attribute to the columns hash inside your...

Reasoning Stupidity
A booty call came at four in the morning When all good girls should be tucked up snoring.  The tone was desperate, the timing was poor  A text book case of a friend wanting more  Even though the object of affection  Had long since chosen that night’s confection  Your refusal to retire, while heroic to the last  Inevitably failed to change his selection  Mired in defeat and true intentions...

ActiveRecord::MultiparameterAssignmentErrors
ActiveRecord is giving me beef today. Virtual attribute and multiparameter attribute assignment beef. Horrible.

– A comment on a New York Times article about employers using social media to screen applicants. The story made me roll my eyes and check to see if Captain Obvious had authored it (he didn’t).  The comment on the other hand, made me giggle.
